Add awning controls to your Home Assistant dashboard
Add an Awning Controls button to your Home Assistant dashboard that opens a popup with Extend and Retract, plus your awning lights if it has them.
Once it's set up, your awning is one button away on your dashboard, next to your other controls. If your awning has LED lights, the same popup controls them too. Setup takes about two minutes in Home Assistant's own dashboard editor, and you only do it once.
Before you start
- Your awning showing up in Home Assistant, through a ROAMiQ relay or the Fiamma Electric Awning add-on
- A Home Assistant administrator account (only administrators can edit dashboards)
Add the Awning Controls button
Turn on edit mode
Open the dashboard where you want the button, then select the pencil in the top-right corner.
Add a card
Select + in the section where you want the button, then open the By card tab.
Pick the ROAMiQ Popup Button Card
Search for popup and select ROAMiQ Popup Button Card.
Name the button and pick an icon
In Name, type Awning Controls. In Icon, search for awning and pick mdi
Put the awning card in the popup
Under Popup Cards, select +. Then in Card Type, pick RoamiQ Awning Control Card.
Pick your awning
Leave Control Mode on Cover Entity. Then in Cover Entity, pick your awning.
If your awning has LED lights, set the fields under Lights (optional): Front LED Switch, Case LED Switch, Brightness Up, and Brightness Down. Leave any you don't have on None and the card won't show them.
Save and finish
Select Save, then select Done in the top bar to leave edit mode.
Using your awning controls
- Hold to move. The awning moves only while you hold Extend or Retract. Let go and it stops.
- Watch the status. The card shows Extending or Retracting while the awning moves, and Idle when it stops.
- Control the lights. If you added them, Front and Case turn each LED bank on or off, and − and + step the brightness down or up one notch per press.
- One button, more controls. Edit the button and select + under Popup Cards again to add another tab to the same popup, like your bed.
Why can't I find the ROAMiQ Popup Button Card?
Check that you're on the By card tab, then search for popup. If it still isn't listed, reload the page and try again.
Why isn't my awning in the Cover Entity list?
The list shows every cover in Home Assistant, so a missing awning means Home Assistant isn't seeing it yet. Check that its relay or the Fiamma Electric Awning add-on is set up, then open the card again.
Why does the card say Not found?
The card can't find the awning it was set up with, which happens if that device was renamed or removed. To fix it, edit the button, open the awning card under Popup Cards, and pick your awning again.
Can I put the awning and the bed in one button?
Yes. Edit the button, select + under Popup Cards, and pick RoamiQ Bed Control Card in Card Type. Each card gets its own tab in the popup.
