ROAMiQ RTX Control Chip: installation guide

Install the ROAMiQ RTX Control Chip inside a Dometic RTX air conditioner: power it from the 12V posts, place the IR emitter at the display, and connect the Main and Display harnesses.

The ROAMiQ RTX Control Chip installs inline between the Dometic RTX main unit and its display panel. It takes power from the RTX's own 12V supply and uses a small IR emitter to talk to the display.

Before you start

  • ROAMiQ RTX Control Chip kit (chip, 2-pin 12V power harness with ring terminals, IR emitter, 7-pin extension harness) [CONFIRM kit contents]
  • T10 Torx driver
  • T25 Torx driver
  • A second pair of hands helps when connecting the harnesses — the cables are short

Open the RTX

1

Remove the cover screws

Remove the six T10 Torx screws holding the interior cover, then the four T25 Torx screws in the corners.

2

Lift the unit

Pull the unit straight up. Wiggle it back and forth if it sticks — sealant can hold it down. Lift it just far enough to see the wiring and control board underneath.

3

Make room for the chip

Find the harness that runs between the display and the main unit — the chip will connect and sit right here. If space is tight, gently bend the small metal tab down so the chip fits. [CONFIRM: OK to recommend bending the tab to customers]

Connect power

4

Attach the 12V power harness

Take the ROAMiQ 2-pin power harness. Remove the screws from the existing 12V posts completely, slip the ring terminals over the posts (red to +12V, black to negative), and tighten the screws back down. This is what powers the chip.

Install the IR emitter

5

Open the display

Remove the T10 Torx screws on the display cover, take the cover off, and lift out the display circuit board.

6

Stick the IR emitter in place

Peel the backing off the adhesive tape on the IR emitter and stick it in the spot shown — right where the IR receiver sits.

7

Route the cord and close the display

Route the IR emitter cord out the corner of the display housing. Reinstall the display board and the cover — the rubber seal around the edge should squeeze down evenly — then tighten the screws.

Connect the chip

8

Plug in the IR emitter

The IR cord is short, so connect it first. Push the plug all the way into the chip. It can feel seated when it's not — it should be very snug.

9

Plug in the 12V power

Connect the 2-pin power harness to the chip with the connector clips facing up.

10

Connect Main and Display

The chip is labeled Main ↑ and Display ↓. Plug the harness coming from the main unit into the Main port and the harness going to the display into the Display port. Use the 7-pin extension harness where a cable doesn't reach. Make sure each connector clicks in.

Close it up

11

Tuck everything in

Fit the chip and all the wiring into the space next to the control board. Bring the IR cord out at an angle toward the corner. Nothing should stick up above the opening.

12

Lower the unit

Lower the unit back into place slowly. As it goes down, make sure it isn't pressing on the chip and no wires are pinched or sticking out.

13

Reinstall the screws

Put the four T25 corner screws back in, then refit the cover with its six T10 screws.

14

Restore power and test

Reconnect the 12V supply. Turn the RTX on from its display and make sure it responds normally.

Troubleshooting

The RTX or its display doesn't work after the install

The Main and Display harnesses are probably swapped. Disconnect power, open the unit, and check that the main-unit harness is in Main and the display harness is in Display.

The chip doesn't power on

Check that both ring terminals are tight on the 12V posts with red on +12V, and that the 2-pin plug is fully seated in the chip with the clips facing up.

The RTX doesn't respond to commands from ROAMiQ

Check the IR emitter. Its plug must be pushed all the way into the chip, and the emitter must be stuck right next to the display's IR receiver — not on the other side of the board.
